ChatPDF helps when you do not want to skim a whole document just to find one answer. Upload a text based PDF, ask a question and read the AI answer on the page. You can keep asking follow up questions about the same uploaded file while the page is open. How ChatPDF Works

PDFem extracts selectable text from the PDF once and keeps that readable text in a temporary session. Your questions are then answered from that session instead of uploading the PDF again each time. The AI is instructed to answer from the document text only. If the answer is not in the readable text, the tool should say that instead of pretending the PDF contains something it does not.

Ask Better Questions

Specific questions work best. Instead of asking "What is this about?", ask "What are the payment terms?", "What documents are required?", "What are the main risks?" or "What does section 4 say about termination?" A focused question gives the AI a clearer target and makes the answer easier to check against the source file.

Scans Need OCR First

ChatPDF needs text it can read. If your PDF came from a scanner, copier or phone camera, it may not contain selectable text. Run OCR PDF first, then upload the searchable copy to ChatPDF. OCR quality depends on the scan, so review important answers against the original document.

Follow Up Questions

After the first question, the same temporary PDF session is used for follow up questions while the page is open. That makes the page feel more like a document chat while still keeping the file temporary.

What ChatPDF Is Not

ChatPDF is not a lawyer, accountant, doctor or official reviewer. It can help you understand a document faster, but important work still needs human review. For legal, financial, medical, academic or business decisions, check the answer inside the original PDF before you rely on it.

File Handling and AI Processing

AI assisted tools are optional. When you use ChatPDF, the extracted document text and your questions may be sent to the configured AI provider so answers can be generated. Uploaded files, temporary text sessions and generated reports are removed automatically shortly after processing.

What is ChatPDF?

Yes. After the PDF is uploaded, you can ask more than one question about the same document while the page is open. The answers appear in a simple chat style panel under your questions. If you upload a different PDF or the temporary session expires, the conversation starts again.

What kind of questions can I ask ChatPDF?

Ask direct questions that the document can actually answer. For example, ask for the deadline in a policy, the main risks in a contract, the required documents in an application packet or the conclusion of a report. Very broad questions can work, but specific questions usually produce more useful answers.

Why does ChatPDF say it cannot find an answer?

That usually means the answer is not present in the extracted text, the PDF is scanned, the question is too broad or the relevant part of a long document was outside the AI context. If the question is broad, ask about a specific section, term or requirement.

Why can't ChatPDF read my PDF?

ChatPDF needs readable text inside the file. Some PDFs are scanned images, even when they look like normal documents in a viewer. If you cannot select or copy text from the page, use the OCR PDF tool first to create a searchable copy, then upload that new file to ChatPDF. OCR works best with clear scans, straight pages and text that is not blurred.

Can I rely on ChatPDF for legal, financial or medical documents?

Use it as a reading aid, not as final advice. AI can miss context or give an answer that needs checking. For contracts, financial statements, health records, filings or identity documents, compare the answer with the source PDF and follow your own review process before acting on it.
